It’s beginning to look a lot like… Bockfest! Yes, it’s that most wonderful beery time of the year. As we look ahead to the 20th Anniversary Bockfest weekend (March 2-4, 2012), we have a couple of pre-Bockfest events to attend in the mean time. For more information on any of these events, check out their web site at http://www.bockfest.com/
Wednesday, February 22nd from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m.
Precipitation Retaliation Happy Hour at Grammer’s
As you may remember, Bockfest 2008 was hit by a blizzard and almost shut down completely (though the parade went on as planned). In 2009, the Bockfest organizers held the first Precipitation Retaliation Happy Hour where a snowman was burned in effigy to ward off bad weather. That year, temperatures reached the 70s for Bockfest weekend and a tradition was born.
This year, the Precipitation Retaliation Happy Hour is back at Grammer’s and there will be food and bock beer specials. The actual burning of the snowman will take place at about 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Schoenling Bock Beer Tapping at Mecklenburg Gardens
Every year as part of Bockfest, the Bloatarian Brewing League holds the Bockfest Homebrew Competition. The winner’s recipe is then brewed for the following year’s Schoenling Bock for Bockfest. This very special beer is only available at this tapping and at various Bockfest venues during that weekend.
The tapping and the related festivities will take place in the rear Bavarian Banquet Haus of Mecklenburg Gardens. Admission is free and there will be Happy Hour beer prices on the bock beers. A German buffet will available for $11. No reservations will be taken for the tapping or the buffet, but they are recommended if you plan to order off the menu in the main restaurant (513-221-5353).
