Moerlein Lager House: A Hoperatives First Look

Last night, we had the honor of attending the first VIP night / soft opening of the Moerlein Lager House. If you are unfamiliar with restaurant soft openings, these are nights when friends and family are invited to help a restaurant try out their operations before opening to the public. The guests enjoy a complimentary meal while the restaurant gets a trial run.

There is so much we want to show you about the Lager House we can’t fit it all in one post. Watch over the next few days for more photos and information.

Lots of different seating areas throughout the Lager House. The first floor is more casual (especially in the beer garden section) and the second floor is a combination of tables and booths.

The front part of the second floor is the home to the Beer Barons Hall of Fame and can be used to private dining. The round tables here enjoy a spectacular view of Great American Ball Park.

Since we are believers in better beer, we have to tell you about the beer. There are two massive bars (one on each floor). The first floor bar specializes in the Christian Moerlein family of beers. And almost of these beers will be available in growlers specially made for the Lager House.

The second floor has all of those beers plus guest beers including local beers and craft beers. See that glass below? Yep, that’s Chimay Red on draft from the second floor bar at the Lager House.

But one of the most amazing part of the Moerlein Lager House is the view. Almost every single table and bar stool is afforded an incredible view from the large floor to ceiling windows. And when the weather gets better, outside seating will provide you views like this one:

although I’m excited to see what new CM beer will be brewed/served here (haven’t been a fan of any of theirs, to date), I’m really happy to see they have guest beers as well! Hopefully we’ll get lucky enough to see some 3 Floyds and Green Flash there…

Thanks so much for the photos and info. I’m looking forward to visiting The Lager House after what I’m sure will be huge crowds the first couple of weeks. On the whole, I enjoy Moerlein’s brews, particularly OTR Ale (which compares well against any other brewery’s products), Northern Liberties, Fifth & Vine, and Emancipator. It’s very generous of Greg Hardman to have other local brands featured as well. I’m not really interested in out of town brews I can get elsewhere. I’d like to see Hardman focus on his vision of celebrating and revitalizing Cincinnati’s great brewing heritage. Cheers!

Thanks for this :) I figured they must be having a soft opening coming up sometime soon, glad you got to check it out for us. It looks amazing. I like the sound of the two bars, and that view…we definitely have the best skyline.

There are only a couple of Moerlein brews that I am a fan of, but that doesn’t stop me from supporting this lager house and looking forward to have somewhere that will have a heavy focus on various local beers.

We’re on our way back to being the beer city we once were. Cheers indeed!
