The Party Source in Bellevue, KY announced today that Mitch Dougherty, longtime brewer at Rock Bottom Cincinnati on Fountain Square, is taking on the challenge of starting Eight Ball Brewing, a new production brewery to be located in the expanded Party Source building. Mitch’s last day at Rock Bottom was Friday, January 4th and he began his tenure at The Party Source yesterday, January 7th.
Eight Ball Brewing — named for the highway signs marking KY Route 8 that passes in front of The Party Source — will feature a 15-barrel brewhouse custom-built by Vendome Copper & Brass Works of Louisville, KY. The same company is constructing the equipment for the adjoining distillery that’s part of the same expansion to The Party Source. Plans haven’t been finalized, but as they stand now customers sitting in a 40+ seat beer bar area will be able to enjoy one of more than 30 beers on tap while looking in on the brewhouse.
There are a number of details that need to be worked out, but one of the most important has already been finalized: Eight Ball Brewing will be a reflection of Mitch Dougherty’s vision. “I am ready for the new adventure and I know we will do wonderful and exciting things at Eight Ball Brewing.” Mitch said, “With 100% creative freedom, a custom built brewery and many avenues to sell our beer, the sky is the limit.” Immediate plans are for the brewery to concentrate on draft beer production with only limited bottling capabilities. Plans are for the brewery to be operational in calendar year 2013.
