From the Rhinegeist email newsletter:
This weekend is a celebration of a marriage that happened nearly 200 years ago, when young Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese and threw a party for the city of Munich to celebrate his excitement. Each year, as the weather cools, the city of Munich celebrates this wedding and the coming of fall with an Oktoberfest celebration that attracts millions of people. Cincinnati, with strong German heritage is home to the largest Oktoberfest celebration outside of Bavaria (which attracts over 1 million people to our fine city).
In this vein, we’re celebrating Franz-toberfest here at the brewery with a party that includes fire breathers, inflatable jousting and highballing music. We’ve built a few more tables to improve the biergarten feel of the space and we’ve got some friends coming from all corners of the US to join us in this celebration of fall, malt, camaraderie and just general fantasticness.
Our buddies at Dutch’s Larder have been prepping sausages all week in preparation for the event and they even used some spent grain from this week’s brew to make accompanying bread. It’s going to be a perfectly delicious compliment to our thirst quenching, malt expressing Franz!
As for music…
Saturday, Sept 21st:
1-3pm: Shiny Old Soul – rock & soul & all sorts of good feeling.
5-7pm: DAAP Girls – Stu & crew bringing the sauce!
9-11pm: DJ Matt Joy – spinning tunes to light yo’ imagination on fire
Sunday, Sept 22nd:
1-3pm: Small and Poor – Brewer Luke & cousin working their magic with the guitars.
5-7pm: The Cincy Brass – Creative and bold horns.
FRANZ – (an untraditional Oktoberfest)
Franz: 5.4% ABV, 20 IBU
Malts: 2 Row, Munich, Cara Munich
Franz is an autumnal brew, a bit of a dreamer, often hikes in the Alps and comes back with great ideas for delicious malts and is forever hoisting barrels over his head for ‘ze exercize’. Franz is our Oktoberfest brau, and our first take on a German brew. Not traditional, but über German. These malts will PUMP you UP, jaaah!
