Listermann Brewing announced today that their Volksfest summer beer festival will be held on Friday, August 1st and Saturday, August 2nd this year. We had to miss this event last year because we were in Boston attending the national beer bloggers conference so we are really looking forward to attending this year.
If you also missed last year, Volksfest features only craft beers from local breweries. As Jason Brewer of Listermann puts it, “The word Volk in German means people, and Cincy’s brewers have decided to come together once again to show our customers just how much they mean to us.” And unlike the Starkbier Fest which emphasized higher gravity beers, Volksfest is all about lower ABV and session beers that are perfect for the hot summer days of August in Cincinnati.
The breweries participating are Bad Tom Smith, Blank Slate, Cellar Dweller, Christian Morelein, Fifty West, MadTree, Mt. Carmel, Quaff Bros, Rhinegeist, Rivertown, Rock Bottom, Wiedemann and the host breweries Triple Digit and Listermann. Some of those breweries are even bringing beers that will only be available at this event.
The event is co-hosted with the Cincideutsch who “will be bringing an authentic German feel to the festival, as well as booths, banners and parades to talk about their respective clubs.” There will also be a ceremonial keg tapping of the Listermann Volksfest Lager at 4:00 pm.
There is no cost to attend Volksfest. You just pay for whatever you want to eat and drink. Several different food venders will be on hand to serve a wide range of food. They are promisting live music all day, performed by local musicians.
The celebration goes from Friday at 5:00 pm until 12:00 midnight and Saturday from 12:00 noon until 11:00 pm. Like all the festivals hosted by Listermann Brewing, this event will be family and dog friendly.
