Facing a holiday weekend of chores or staring at the walls? You have a chance to make a quick trip to Columbus, OH to sample some beers, get a couple free nights in a nice hotel and (most importantly) help out with a great cause.

Craig Johnson, organizer of the most-excellent Cincy Winter Beerfest, has taken his show up I-71 for the first-ever Columbus Beerfest. The event benefits the Big Joe Duskin Music Education Foundation, just like his Cincy events, but this one is targeted at expanding the organization’s regional reach. Something happened and some Columbus-area volunteers didn’t come through, so the scramble is on to find 15 volunteers to work Friday and Saturday. Chris Nascimento of the Cincinnati Malt Infusers and circle3concepts.com has graciously volunteered to get some folks together, and he called just a little while ago to extend an invitation to any and all Hoperatives. There are really just a few things you need to know that we can tell you:

• The event is being held at the Columbus Convention Center May 28 & 29.
• You will get a T-Shirt, a pint glass, and tasting privileges.
• You will get a room at the adjoining Crown Plaza hotel for each night you work
• You’ll share that room with someone else. The only way to choose your roommate is to provide another volunteer you don’t mind sleeping in the same room with.
• You need to make up your mind really, really soon.
