Ciders We Love Right Now: August 5, 2015

To mix things up a bit, this week we are posting about ciders that we love right now. Like the Beers We Love Right Now posts, these aren’t be long reviews analyzing the ciders, just the name of the cider and a sentence or two about why it’s one of the ciders we love right now.

Tom – Cider Boys Cranberry Road Cider – I’ve always liked cider in general, but when I discovered that cranberry cider exists … well … it made the world a better place. Tart and refreshing and 5.0% ABV, this is perfect for a hot day like the ones we’ve been having lately.

Carla – I had a chance to check out the new ciders from Rhinegeist this week. The Semi-Dry is still sweet enough for those who prefer a sweeter cider, but my favorite is the Dry-Hopped which is a wonderful blend of dry hop flavor and citrus sweetness.

Jared – Sidra de Nava by Virtue Cider in Michigan. It’s a tart Spanish style sidra. Great but hard to swallow the $20 bomber price. It just sits on the shelves and $12 I’d buy it.

John – I had a citra hopped cider at Forty Five North Winery in northern Michigan a couple weeks ago that was outstanding.

Jason – I tried Angry Orchard’s Hop’n Madd Apple Cider over the weekend. It’s dry hopped with Galaxy hops (plus Strisselsplat or something that sounds like a sneeze) So you get a tiny hint of hops in the nose. Being a HUGE Galaxy fan, it’s a nice way to get that tropical fruit essence while sharing a drink with the Puddinette on the back patio in the evening without having to contend with 8-10% ABV.

Tom and Carla – We were sent some samples of Bean Blossom Cider from Oliver Winery in Indiana a while back. Carla was a bit hesitant to even try these since she remembered the wines from Oliver Winery back in the late 1980s as being on the sweet side (white zinfandel and the like), but these ciders were some of the best we’ve ever had. And the labels are so much fun!
