Opening Day is less than three weeks away and the mild weather we had earlier this week has us all thinking about baseball. Well, and beer too. Being a non-Cincinnati native, Opening Day traditions are something that I’m new to, but I can honestly say some of my happiest Opening Day memories started at Arnold’s. If I didn’t have work obligations on Monday, April 6th, you know you could find me that morning having breakfast in the courtyard at Arnold’s.
Here is their schedule for the day:
Breakfast from 9:00-11:00 am.
At 9:00 am, they will be tapping some truly great beers including Ommegang’s Game of Thrones Series: 3 Eyed Raven, Three Floyds Zombie Dust, Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin IPA, Triple Digit Coconut Chickow!, Blank Slate Bonbonerie Opera Cream Stout, Christian Moerlein 11/162 Bourbon Barrel Ale, three year aged Stone Imperial Russian Stout (2013), Rhinegeist Saber Tooth Tiger and Fifty West Wire to Wire Wheat.
As usual, they will be marking the bottom of one out of every five random beer cups. If you get one of the marked cups, you win autographed baseball cards and game used memorabilia. There are over 100 prizes in all from Cincinnati Reds players like Pete Rose, Joey Votto, Ken Griffey Jr, Aroldis Chapman, Brandon Phillips, George Foster, Billy Hamilton, Jay Bruce, Adam Dunn and more.
Todd Hepburn will be on the piano to play every baseball song that you can think of from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.
Jeremy Dubin and Justin McCombs from the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company will be performing both “Casey at the Bat” and Abbot & Costello’s “Who’s on First” on the courtyard stage.
Plus, former Arnold’s owner Jim Tarbell will be on hand dressed at Peanut Jim Shelton playing the mouth harp.
