The beers for our March Hoperatives Happening Beer Dinner have been selected and, not surprisingly, we went with all local beers. See below for the information on the beers in bold. Be sure to get your reservations in as soon as possible. If you are waiting for your Hoperatives number, go ahead and make your reservation now and we’ll get you your number as soon as we can. Hope to see lots of you there!
And now for something completely different.
The March Hoperatives Happening is going to be special. We’ve teamed up with the Summit Restaurant at Cincinnati State’s Midwest Culinary Institute to put on a beer dinner. The date is March 17 — yes, St. Patrick’s Day — and it’ll begin at 6:30 PM. The price of the dinner is $40.00 a person UNLESS you’re a Hoperative. Hoperatives get a $5 discount, so the price is $35 per person for Hoperatives. Tax and gratuity are not included in the price.
If ever there was a reason to e-mail us and get your own Hoperative number (it doesn’t cost anything), this is it.
Chef Sean Kagy has come up with a nice twist on the beer dinner concept. Rather than courses being served in a set order, it’s going to be a “dine-around” format. There will be four stations staffed by culinary students, each serving a dish paired with a different beer. Guests will be able to visit each station as often as they like. We plan to have a “welcome” beer, so there will be a total of five beers served.
Here is the menu with beers:
- The “greeting” beer – Mt. Carmel Springtime Ale
- Station 1: Beer-Cheese Nachos with assorted toppings – Christian Moerlein Northern Liberties IPA
- Station 2: Beer-braised Short Ribs with seasonal accompaniment – Rivertown Dunkel
- Station 3: Beer-braised Mussels with seasonal accompaniment – Rivertown Wit (before its release date for 2011!)
- Station 4: Assorted Desserts – Rock Bottom Tazza Mia Espresso Porter
What about the beers? We get to pick them, and we haven’t decided yet. We’re open to suggestions, but you’ll need to make them quickly. We need to make sure whatever we pick can be obtained in time. We’ll announce the beers when they’re set.
So here’s a place where you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with full confidence that there will be no green beer in sight. It also turns out that this will also be the second round of the NCAA basketball tournament. No problem. We’ll have a TV available. The dine-around format is tailor-made for mixing, mingling and popping over to check in on how the games are going.
Reservations for the Beer Dinner at the Summit should be made by calling (513) 569-4980. Make sure you tell them you’re a Hoperative when you make your reservation so you can get the discount. We’ll work with them to verify that. You can check out The Summit’s web site for information about complimentary valet parking. Since this is a special event, reservations cannot be made through OpenTable.
