Pink Boots Gose Tapping at Blank Slate – 4/28

It’s time for the Pink Boots Society beer tapping! If you remember, last year was the first for both our Cincinnati chapter of Pink Boots Society (an organization for women working professionally in the brewing industry) and our first time participating in the International Women’s Collaborative Brew Day (IWCBD).

This year, we had several changes. First of all, IWCBD is traditionally held on International Women’s Day which is March 8th. That was a Tuesday this year so not so good for getting participants. The Pink Boots Society created Big Boots Brew Day to be “held every year the weekend closest to International Womens’ Day” which was March 5th & 6th this year.

Big Boots Brew Day

If you are familiar with the Cincinnati beer event calendar, you quickly realized that March 5th and 6th was a problem for us. So, due to Bockfest weekend, our local Pink Boots chapter met at Blank Slate Brewing on Sunday, March 13th to brew our beer for this year. The style for this year is a gose. We were thrilled.

Join us on Thursday, April 28th for the tapping of our “There She Gose Again” Hibiscus Gose at Blank Slate Brewing. The beer will be available when the tap room opens at 5:00 pm and there will be a toast at 6:00 pm.

You can RSVP on the Facebook event page to receive more updates as we get closer to the tapping day.

Braxton Brewing and NKY Homebrewers Guild to Host Hammerdown Brew Cup

Hammerdown Brew CupBraxton Brewing Company has teamed up with the Northern Kentucky Homebrewers Guild to host a new homebrew competition this April.  The Hammerdown Brew Cup will be Saturday, April 23 2016 at Braxton in Covington.

The Hammerdown Brew Cup will be the second competition run by the NKY Homebrewers, but the first with Braxton as sponsor.  Braxton Head Brewer, Evan Rouse and COO, Greg Rouse have been members of the Guild since its inception in 2012 and remain highly involved in the club, despite their busy commercial brewing responsibilities.

Hammerdown Brew Cup is a BJCP sanctioned competition limited to 350 entries with a 10 entry limit per brewer.  Braxton Head Brewer Evan Rouse will serve as Head Judge and Brewing Team Member Mike Roszkowski will be Competition Coordinator.  The Best of Show winning beer may be eligible to be brewed on Braxton’s professional system if it is within a qualifying category. The winner will be invited to brew their beer with the Braxton team on their 20 BBL brewhouse. The winning beer will be released in the Braxton tap room and may be distributed locally. In the event that the BOS beer is not from an eligible category the runner up beers will be considered.

Entry registration for the competition opened Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the competition website http://hammerdown.nkyhomebrewers.org.  The Guild is also seeking volunteers to judge and steward the competition.  Judging will begin at 9:00 a.m. April 23rd, at Braxton Brewing, 27 W. 7th St., Covington KY.

Hoperatives Tastings and Tappings Report

DevouBrew Tapping at Braxton – 8/21

We already included this event on Monday’s This Week in Beer post, but we wanted to share a bit more information with you about it. Gotta love good beer for a good cause.

The DevouGrass Music and Arts Festival may be a little more than a month away, but fans can support the cause starting Friday, August 21st from 6-9pm at Covington’s Braxton Brewing Company during the tapping release party for DevouBrew—Braxton’s Golden Cream Ale, Storm, infused with cucumbers, lime, and mint. The refreshing, end-of-summer beer will be available in the taproom, while supplies last, until the DevouGrass Music and Arts Festival takes place in September. Braxton Brewing will donate $1 from the sale of every DevouBrew pint to the DevouGrass festival’s charities.
The DevouBrew tapping release party will be held at Braxton’s taproom located at 27 W 7th St., in Covington. Local Bluegrass/Newgrass favorites Blue Caboose will take the stage at 7:00pm, and Sushi Cincinnati will be on hand from 5 to 9pm with $5 create-your-own sushi rolls.
The second annual DevouGrass Music and Arts Festival, presented by The Devou Good Project, will take place at Covington’s Devou Park Bandshell on Saturday, September 26, 2015 from noon-dusk. The family-friendly event will be free to attend and will feature music, artisan craft vendors, food trucks, bike races, and entertainment for kids of all ages. All proceeds will benefit Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky’s adolescent addiction treatment programs.
