This past Saturday, two local breweries took home medals in the Indiana Brewers’ Cup. This annual competition is in its 16th year and is part of the Indiana State Fair. The nearly 1,300 entries are from both professional brewers and home brewers.
Christian Moerlein received a gold for their Se7en hefeweizen and two bronzes for Lager House Helles and Barbarosa. Brewer Tom Hull is seen below with the medals. Congratulations also to Matt Utter, Gregg Wilson, Adam Rauckhorst, Al Sheets and Rian Umbach.
Rhinegeist won a gold medal for Zen and a silver medal for Truth. Rhinegeist Brewer Jim Matt was previously with Indianapolis based SunKing and had participated in the Indiana Brewers’ Cups previously. Congratulations also to Luke Cole and Aaron Stryker.
Bloomington, IN based Upland Brewing won Brewery of the Year and Best in Show for their Vinosynth Red. While many of Upland’s beers are available in the Cincinnnati / Northern Kentucky area, VinoSynth Red is one of their sours that are so popular they have a lottery for people to win the chance to purchase them. In particular, the Vinosynth Red is “a blend of 50% Sour Reserve and 50% Malefactor Flanders-style Red Ale aged on Catawba” and is a collaboration with Oliver Winery.
