This Week in Bockfest: March 4-7, 2021

It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Cincinnati: Bockfest! While things will be different this year, the great tradition of goats and bock beers will continue in the Queen City for the 29th time. Remember that reservations are highly recommended (if not required) for all of these events.

Here are some of the highlights of Bockfest 2021:

All weekend at Fibonacci Brewing – New Baby Goat!
Fibonacci has a new baby goat named Buttercup and two bock beers named for two of their goats. Buttercup’s namesake beer is a Dunkles Bock and the other beer is a New Riff rye whiskey barrel-aged Dopplebock named Honey after another resident goat.

This Week in Beer: January 18-24, 2021

A quick reminder: To be included on our This Week in Beer listing, the event must be beer-focused. For example, a yoga session that just happens to be held in the brewery is not beer-focused. But a yoga session bundled with a pint of beer at a brewery is beer-focused. Many locations are still doing trivia, live music, and the like so check out their websites for more information on those types of events. While in the past, we only listed events here that are unique for this coming week in beer, we will be listing weekly or monthly events until further notice.

Monday, January 18th from 3:00-10:00 pm – All Day Happy Hour and Pizza Special at Darkness Brewing: $4 and $5 (normally $5 and $6) on all Darkness draft beers; starting at 5:00 pm, $10 for any 12″ specialty pizza from Newport Pizza Company delivered for free right to your seat.

Wednesday, January 20th from 5:00-8:00 pm – Beer and Donut Pairing at Taft’s Brewporium: Tickets are $12 for a flight of four different beers paired with four donuts from Peace, Love + Little Donuts. Ticketholders also get a wristband for $1 off pints for the day of the event. Each ticket is good for a one-hour time slot to comply with social distancing. Pairings are S’mores Donut + Cherrywood Amber Ale, Powdered Sugar Donut + Maverick Chocolate Porter, Blueberry Pancake Donut + Nellie’s Lemon Frosty Ale, and Coffee & Cream Donut + Beautiful Harmony English Mild Ale. Tickets are $12. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to the event’s EventBrite page.

Wednesday, January 20th from 6:30-8:00 pm – Humble Hounds at Humble Monk Brewing: A weekly canine week-up with Cincinnati Animal Care to find permanent homes for rescues introduced each Wednesday. Bring your own pup or find out how you can foster a rescue. Pet items like treats and toys can be donated in the taproom collection box. $1 of every draft pint consumed at Humble Monk on Humble Hounds night is donated to Cincinnati Animal Care.

Thursday, January 21st from 5:00-10:00 pm – Beer-It-Forward Thursday at Dead Low Brewing: Pre-purchase a pint or growler for a future guest who is active military or a veteran or who is a first responder, healthcare worker, teacher, or service industry worker.

Thursday, January 21st through Saturday, January 23rd – Local Local Local 21 at Arnold’s Bar and Grill: Enjoy $3.50 pints from local breweries all three days. Breweries include Christian Moerlein, Listermann, Fifty West, Braxton, Little Kings, Urban Artifact, Rhinegeist, MadTree, Darkness, 16 Lots, Bircus, Sam Adams, and more. There will be two solo acts each night playing from 4-9 on Thursday and 5-10 on Friday and Saturday. For more information, check out their Facebook event listing.

Little Kings Draftstravaganza

From Facebook:

Little Kings Draftstravaganza!!!!!!
The moment you have all been waiting for has finally arrived. After a 10+ year hiatus…. Thirsty Cincinnatians can finally get the legendary Little Kings on draft. That’s right, no longer will the masses have to be tethered to the tiny 7 ounce bottles that Little Kings normally come in. They will now be able to be contained to a tiny 8oz glass that Arnold’s will serve them in. You can always order a double if you would like a full pint. For the first few months, Christian Moerlein has chosen Arnold’s to be the exclusive place to get Little Kings on draft and we couldn’t be more honored. Arnold’s is celebrating the momentous occasion on Friday July 28th at 6pm and will be featuring 1.25 8oz drafts and 4.00 Boilermakers all night long. See you there!

Fifty West Golden Ticket Beer Dinner

From Facebook:

On Thursday July 27th at 7pm Arnold’s Bar and Grill and 50 West have teamed up for Arnold’s first ever beer pairing dinner. If we waited this long to do one we figured why not do it right. Arnold’s and Fifty West are combining a 3 course Southern Chef’s tasting menu with 3 of Fifty West Brews and three of Cincinnati’s best Blues artists. Each beer and food tasting will be paired with 3 individual sets from John Reddell & Erin Coburn, Diamond Jim Dews and Ricky Nye. Between sets, beer experts from 50 West will take the stage to tell you all about the beer you are drinking and Arnold’s Chef Dave Marlow will explain what went into the food. To round out the beer dinner everyone in attendance gets to take home an unopened limited edition can of 50 West’s Tangel Fruit Stand IPA or Ocean City Gose with a free Golden Ticket attached to it. What is a Golden Ticket you ask? Very similar to Willy Wonka’s fabled Golden Ticket, it gains you free admission into 50 West’s Fiftyfest 2017 (A $15 value).

Tickets are $39 dollars and you can get them at:
https://fiftywestbrew.com/event/arnolds-three-course-golden-ticket-beer-dinner/

Tickets are extremely limited and are first come first serve.

Arnold’s Vs. Cappy’s Chomolungma Day Challenge 2017

From Facebook:

Arnold’s and Cappy’s have chosen to challenge each other to the Chomolungma Death. Ok Not really. They have really however challanged each other to see who can raise the most money for Lungevity, a lung cancer focused non-profit. Both Cappy’s and Arnold’s will be donating $1 for every pint of Chomlungma and it’s variants on Tuesday 5/23/17. It’s a challenge so there has to be a price to pay. Whoever loses the challenge will have to wear the others T-shirts for an entire weekend this summer. Be sure to come out to help whichever is your favorite establishment raise money for charity and save them from having to wear the others T-shirts all weekend.

2016 Chomolungma Day Champions: Cappy’s
2017 Chomulungma Day Champions: ???

Details:

Jackie O’s Chomolungma Tap Takeover with Chomolungma Nut Brown Ale plus three more extremely rare variants of it:
Imperial Chomolungma
Barrel Aged Chomolungma
Chalmond Joy

Arnold’s will be donating 1 dollar to Lungevity Lung Cancer Research for every Chomolungma sold

Live Blues at Arnold’s from Diamond Jim Dews
Beers tap at 6. Music starts at 7

What is Chomalungma Day?
Chomolungma is not only one of Jackie O’s staple core beers, but it holds an endearing story behind it. About three weeks after Art Oestrike bought O’Hooley’s Pub in Athens, OH, Arts mother, Jackie Oestrike, was diagnosed with lung cancer. She passed six months later, but not before knowing that the bar would eventually be named in her honor, Jackie O’s Pub and Brewery. This brown ale was first brewed to commemorate the Lungevity Everest Expedition, a quest by Brian Oestrike, brother of Jackie O’s Owner Art Oestrike, to summit Mt. Everest in honor of their mother. Brian Oestrike summitted the unforgiving mountain on May 23nd, 2007. The people of Tibet call Mt. Everest “Chomolungma” (also translated to mean Goddess mother of the Earth) & this exceptional ale carries on the spirit of the climb, and the true meaning of family.
