Big Week for Listermann/Triple Digit

As you read earlier in Monday’s “This Week in Beer” post, Japp’s Annex (in conjunction with The Famous Neons Unplugged) is going to begin carrying all local beers and will be celebrating this with a Listermann / Triple Digit tap takeover Friday starting at 5:00 pm. According to the Facebook event for this, the beers will be:

Just this morning, BrewRiver GastroPub announced this in their email newsletter:

We are super excited to announce that BrewRiver’s house beers will now be brewed in Cincinnati at the Triple Digit/Listermann Brewery on Dana Avenue. We plan to celebrate this partnership by continuing to focus on bringing our guests a truly inspiring and accessible culinary experience using the best local ingredients.

The official public launch will be held at BrewRiver on Thursday (5/9) starting at 6:30PM.

Presale tickets are $15.00 per person and go up to $20 on the day of the event. Tickets include passed hors d oeuvres and draft beer “at lower prices than any other bar in Cincinnati” as quoted by their management.

UPDATE Thursday, May 9th at 5:00 pm – “Uwanafix” Grand Cru Tapping at Moerlein Lager House
The Moerlein Lager House will be tapping its first Belgian Golden Strong style ale on Thursday, May 9. It will clock in over 11%, which is higher than the BJCP guidelines for this style…but we think you can handle it.

Our “Uwanafix” Grand Cru is a complex marriage of fruity esters, spicy phenolics, and higher alcohol flavors with a soft malt backbone. It has a light to medium body, but with a distinctive drier finish. The hop character imparted by Styrian Goldings is rather low, but the floral note is still undeniable. We’re working on getting back to our usual first Monday tappings. But we hope you’ll join us for this special brew on Thursday!

Molly Wellmann is a huge supporter of Cincinnati, its businesses and fresh local ingredients. To celebrate this philosophy, the Japp’s Annex will be carrying all-local tri-state craft beers. Japp’s will be teaming up with its sister bar Neons (who have been leading the city in craft beer selection) to make sure each one of their 12 taps is pouring a delicious local draft. To celebrate this new initiative, Japp’s will be hosting an all-Cincinnati beer “Listermann Triple Digit Draft Take-over” on Friday May 10 at 5 p.m. Triple Digit will also live tap a “cask” of the their Chicow! (a hazelnut double brown ale) with fresh vanilla and cinnamon. Other local breweries will include MadTree, Blank Slate, Christian Moerlein, Mt. Carmel, and Fifty West.

$15 per person to taste six beers and six wines. Snacks too!

Bock Beer Class at Japps Annex Neons This Sunday (March 3rd)

Here’s a different way to finish up your Bockfest weekend. “In [their] pursuit to not only serve people great beer, whiskey and cocktails, but to share [their] experience and expertise in these areas,” the good folks at the Famous Neons Unplugged and Japps have decided to begin teaching classes on beer and bourbon every Saturday afternoon between 1:00-2:00 pm at Japps Annex Neons. The plan is to alternate between beer and bourbon classes each week. With this being Bockfest weekend, their first class will be on Bock beers. They are going to feature five different Bock beers that they “the best representations of [that] particular style or just a really cool beer.” On March 16th, the feature will be light Belgians and on March 30th, they will be featuring dark Belgian beers. Looking farther ahead, April 13th will be a class on cellaring beers and will have a six year flight of Goose Island Matilda: 2008-20012 in bottles and 2013 on draft. There will also be food and food pairings.

The cost per class is 20.00 per person. You can register online for the Bock beer class at http://thebirdhauscincinnati.com/event-registration/?regevent_action=register&event_id=19 or you can sign up and pay at Neons, Japps, Japps Annex or the Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar. They will be limiting the classes to just forty people, so seats for the class will be on a first come basis.

Listermann Blarney Stone Red Tapping at Arnold’s – March 17th

Listermann Brewing Company will be releasing its first seasonal draft only beer, Blarney Stone Red Ale. The brewery describes this beer as “a traditional Irish style beer with a deep red hue, sweet malt flavor, and a roasted dry finish.” The first keg will be tapped at Arnold’s Bar and Grill at 9:00 am on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th). We are also hearing that a sneak preview keg of this beer will also be available at Japps Annex on March 16th, 2012 for the OTR Meets Ireland event.
