Nicholson’s will be the first location in the United States to have Tennent’s Original Lager on Tap. Tennent’s pulled out of the U.S. several years ago and tomorrow marks its comeback.

Tuesday, June 19th at 7:00 pm – Rivertown Beer Tasting at Mellow Mushroom
Reservations are required by emailing mellowevents@zoomtown.com (availability is limited). The price of $8.00 per person includes sampling from Rivertown and light appetizers.

Taste of Belgium Celebrates Gnome Week

Instead of our traditional Abbey Wednesday, we will celebrate Gnomes all week long with some VERY SPECIAL BEERS!

You will find the program of festivities below!

What is it with those Belgians and gnomes you may ask? The legend says that it all started 6,666 years ago when gnomes started brewing beers in what became to be known as Belgium. They reproduced for milleniums by staring at a chicken egg for 666 days and the last gnome passed in 1982.

Thirty years ago. Before his passing, the story goes, he passed the secret beer recipe to two aspiring Belgian brewers. Chouffe was born.

Chouffe Brewery is now located at 6666 Houffalize in Belgium.

We will start the celebration tonight with a Chouffe tasting, a low five to the gnomes and a little cheer.

Here is the calendar of event for this short week (gnome weeks only have 4 days):

Wednesday, June 6th
Kick off of Gnome week with a Chouffe tasting: Chouffe, Mc Chouffe and Houblon (IPA). 3 tastes for $6. 5pm-8pm.

Thursday, June 7th
We will continue the week with a Bier du Soleil Tasting. This is a unique and rare Belgian Pale Ale made (of course) in small production with limited amounts available in the US.

Friday, June 8th
We will tap the first truly Belgo-gnome-American beer, the Gnommegang. Joint effort between the Brasserie D’Achouffe in Belgium and the Ommegang brewery in Copperstown, NY. It is a very distinct Belgian style strong blonde ale brewed by combining Chouffe and Ommegang yeasts.

Saturday, June 9th
The gnomes take on the Irish for the World’s smallest toast. We will raise a small glass together at 6:66pm gnome time (7:06pm human time) for the largest gnome toast in history.

For their first B&B of 2012, the Party Source will be pairing German beers with a burger they’re calling the “Nati”- potato pancake, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and classic dressing.

More Beer Events for Tonight

Two “taste” beer events have been added to tonight’s local calendar. The first one is at Taste of Belgium – Belgian Bistro in the Gateway Quarter:

Join us on Wednesday April 4th for our first tapping in our “take-the-glass-home” tapping series.
If there is one thing Belgians are more particular about than beer, it’s the glass in which they drink their beers. Each beer has its own glass.
To honor that tradition, we will let each of our guests to our tapping series leave with the glass.
Right on time for Easter, our inaugural tapping will feature Urthel Hop It.
Hop it is, as its name indicates, hoppier than most Belgian beers. It is has fruity notes but is well-balanced.
The goal of our tapping series is to introduce people to new Belgian beers therefore we’re trying to make it affordable for everybody. Each beer will be $5 and each guest ordering a hop it will leave with the glass, as long as supply lasts.
Date: 4/4/12 5pm till 8pm or till the beer runs out, whichever comes first

The second one is a “Taste of Kentucky” at The Avenue in Covington:

Featuring Alltech brands (including Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Light and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale).
If you’re a KY Bourbon Barrel Ale fan, you’re going to love some of their other offerings. Come check join us and taste some of the best Alltech has to offer… including a few of their new line of spirits mixed by our resident mixologist: Tina.
