This Week in Beer: January 18-24, 2021

A quick reminder: To be included on our This Week in Beer listing, the event must be beer-focused. For example, a yoga session that just happens to be held in the brewery is not beer-focused. But a yoga session bundled with a pint of beer at a brewery is beer-focused. Many locations are still doing trivia, live music, and the like so check out their websites for more information on those types of events. While in the past, we only listed events here that are unique for this coming week in beer, we will be listing weekly or monthly events until further notice.

Monday, January 18th from 3:00-10:00 pm – All Day Happy Hour and Pizza Special at Darkness Brewing: $4 and $5 (normally $5 and $6) on all Darkness draft beers; starting at 5:00 pm, $10 for any 12″ specialty pizza from Newport Pizza Company delivered for free right to your seat.

Wednesday, January 20th from 5:00-8:00 pm – Beer and Donut Pairing at Taft’s Brewporium: Tickets are $12 for a flight of four different beers paired with four donuts from Peace, Love + Little Donuts. Ticketholders also get a wristband for $1 off pints for the day of the event. Each ticket is good for a one-hour time slot to comply with social distancing. Pairings are S’mores Donut + Cherrywood Amber Ale, Powdered Sugar Donut + Maverick Chocolate Porter, Blueberry Pancake Donut + Nellie’s Lemon Frosty Ale, and Coffee & Cream Donut + Beautiful Harmony English Mild Ale. Tickets are $12. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to the event’s EventBrite page.

Wednesday, January 20th from 6:30-8:00 pm – Humble Hounds at Humble Monk Brewing: A weekly canine week-up with Cincinnati Animal Care to find permanent homes for rescues introduced each Wednesday. Bring your own pup or find out how you can foster a rescue. Pet items like treats and toys can be donated in the taproom collection box. $1 of every draft pint consumed at Humble Monk on Humble Hounds night is donated to Cincinnati Animal Care.

Thursday, January 21st from 5:00-10:00 pm – Beer-It-Forward Thursday at Dead Low Brewing: Pre-purchase a pint or growler for a future guest who is active military or a veteran or who is a first responder, healthcare worker, teacher, or service industry worker.

2nd Annual Bewilderfest

From Facebook:

Urban Artifact’s wild culture music and beer festival!

The key concept of the festival is to twist the usual and bend the standards. Urban Artifact is known for their eclectic beers and music performance calendar, and they will be expanding everything for this festival.
The huge roster of bands are all encouraged to be performing a set or a song outside of their normal repertoire – unusual covers, new genres, and the generally unexpected will be rocking from many of your favorite local and regional musicians.
Think about going to a Metallica concert only to hear them cover a Randy Newman song while wearing dresses – or hearing Sublime do one of your favorite upbeat Beatles numbers acoustically.
We will be introducing some new tricks this year with our music presentation.

In addition to the music, Urban Artifact is inviting a plethora of breweries to join the party and craft something truly unique and unusual for the festival. We’ll have barrels of our own fun and twisted flavor combinations and plan to taste lots of barrel aged goodness, unique fruit and vegetable additions, and creative uses of colors and flavors all fermented into delicious brews.

Izzy’s and Urban Artifact Pickle Brew Release Party

From Facebook:

Join us on Friday, July 14 from 4-8pm as we celebrate the release of the new collaboration between Izzy’s and Urban Artifact – Pickle!

This summer, fans of Cincinnati’s iconic deli, Izzy’s, will have the opportunity to enjoy Izzy’s famous pickles in a whole new way – as a beer, as Izzy’s partners with craft brewery, Urban Artifact to launch Pickle.

Based on a German-style wheat beer with a sour finish, Urban Artifact’s Pickle is a traditional German Gose (pronounced “Goes-uh”) brewed with 1,000lbs of cucumbers, 2lbs of fresh dill, 9lbs of sea salt, and 1.25lbs of coriander per 30 BBL batch. The end result is a taste experience similar to that of biting into a fresh dill pickle.

“Our brewing philosophy is to use only the best ingredients in our beers such as whole fruits, spices and vegetables; no flavorings or extracts,” said Scotty Hunter, Chief of Strategic Development for Urban Artifact. “Izzy’s has the same mentality with everything they create and they’ve been a great partner to work with. Plus, there is no better example of this philosophy than an Izzy’s pickle!”

To unveil Pickle to the public, Urban Artifact will host a tapping and can release party on July 14, 2017 from 4-8pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy Pickle in both cans and on draft, with six-packs available for purchase. Adding to the festivities, guests will enjoy complimentary “Izzy-tizers” from Izzy’s and will have the chance to walk away with fun Pickle swag.

“In addition to Reubens and potato pancakes, one of the things we are most known for at Izzy’s are our pickles,” said John Geisen, President of Izzy’s. “It’s been a thrill to work with Urban Artifact to bring the taste of our famous pickles to life as a craft beer.”

In addition to being available through the Urban Artifact taproom, after the launch, Pickle will be distributed in limited quantities at various retailers across the Tri-State as well as at select Izzy’s locations.

Urban Artifact is located in Cincinnati’s Northside neighborhood at 1660 Blue Rock Street, Cincinnati, OH 45223. For more information, visit or call (513) 620-4729.
